Southern City Brunch

Saturday Brunch: my favorite part of the week. We’re always on the lookout for great new brunch spots and were fortunate enough to stumble upon Lowcountry in the West Village this past weekend. Lowcountry serves unassuming southern dishes in a friendly and casual environment – it’s the perfect place to meet with friends for plates of warm comfort food and drinks. The portions are pretty generous, so I’d recommend getting a couple of things on the menu to pass around the table.  The Heuvos Rancheros, Fried Chiecken Biscuit, and Pulled Pork Sliders were just a few of our favs. As far as the drinks go, we loved the John Daly (Firefly Ice Tea Vodka, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, and a splash of Soda) while the boys stuck with the $6 Good Times Special: PBR with a shot of the house Bourbon.  Cheers!

LOVE LOVE LOVE

I am LOVING these Persol Optical Collection frames!!

Simple, sexy, sophisticated, sleek. I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

I tried them on at TINA CATHERINE eyeware and opticians on 8th Ave (between 19th and 20th).

Great place to find both unique sunglasses and eyeglasses, you have to check it out. I'll definitely be wearing my glasses more often once I have this pair.

Savage Beauty

Online arts and social news network FlavorPill has listed the Metropolitan Museum of Art's upcoming Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition as a "must-see exhibition for 2011".
While I do love the guy and it will be amazing to see the retrospective, I have a couple of problems with the concept of the show.
1. It is sponsored by none other than the Alexander McQueen house of couture, which to me is shameless self-promotion in order to increase hype and elevate the brand to "museum-quality."
2. The Costume Institute at the Met fails continuously to give the public important information regarding the history of their shows.
An example?? The Coco Chanel show in 2005 (sponsored by KARL LAGERFELD) failed to point out that the woman was a traitor during WWII in Europe. Fraternizing with her Nazi general boyfriend in order to live an easier lifestyle of glamour, wealth and domination.
Don't get me wrong, I love Chanel just as much as McQueen. It's the exploitation of a brand name controlled by the pretentious Met Museum.
WILL I STILL GO SEE IT? ABSOLUTELY.

Gimme That: 5 Things We Want Now

1. Mulberry’s small leather-brown cross-body bag - the perfect everyday city accessory for the Spring.  The classic Gracie shoulder bag is $550 (pretty reasonable for a Mulberry) and can be found on net-a-porter.

2. The GL10 Polaroid Instant Mobile Printer allows users to instantly print 3 × 4 Polaroid photos from a cell phone, computer or digital camera.  Measuring the size of a palm, the GL10 printer can be connected via Bluetooth to a mobile phone or computer. The lightweight printer is perfect for mobility wherever you need to print out digital photos (I’m sure we’ll get good use out of it at the bars).  The printer will be available in May for $150

3.  If you’re looking for to make a bold statement, the Wayuú Taua bag is your best bet. Each of the one-of-a-kind bags are hand-made by the Wayuu, an indigenous group of Latin-Americans.  It takes one Wayuú woman approximately 160 hours to weave a single bag.  The bags run between $120-$180, with 65% of the proceeds benefiting child care, educational programs and health services for the Wayuú people.  Purchase yours online at Revolve Clothing.

4. Deborah Lippman’s luxury line of polishes were created as a result of her working with some of the most iconic figures in fashion, from Sarah Jessica Parker to Zac Posen to Rodarte.  I can’t get enough of her funky laquers  (just added Bad Romance and Across the Universe to my ever-growing collection). Check them out at http://lippmanncollection.stores.yahoo.net/index.html.  But be warned, like most glittery polishes, Lippman’s are no walk in the park to take off…

5. A French Bulldog pup… I'm naming mine "Pierre" (in honor of his heritage).

"Worldwide Propaganda Delivery"

SHEPARD FAIREY is the artist behind the iconic propaganda of the Obama campaign and Obey clothing line. His murals have now graced the walls and billboards of cities all over the United States and beyond, expressing his very political agenda.

In honor of the shootings in Arizona, he is offering ONLY 500 OF THESE PRINTS (left) for $45 on his website. His intentions are to raise awareness of gun laws and the need for 2nd Amendment solutions.

The prints will be for sale this Friday 1/21/11, at a random undisclosed time. My recommendation is that you keep the page up on your office computer and refresh every few minutes (or on your personal device, for those of us who are currently unemployed). This is a great opportunity to get a priceless item for such a great price. BUT THEY WILL SELL OUT WITHIN MINUTES in my opinion.

Here is the link to his page, and you can find the information regarding the prints on his homepage. Good luck, future art collectors. Let me know
if anyone of you succeeds.
